Membership in Mensa is open to anyone who has achieved a score within the top 2 percent of the general population on an approved intelligence test. More than five million Americans are eligible for membership.
Mensa has members as young as three and as old as 102. However, the Mensa Admissions Test which we administer is only valid for children 14 years and older. Testing for children under 14 is available through private testing services (check the Yellow Pages) and educational institutions.
Mensa Admissions Test
Mensa offers two test batteries. The Standard Test battery consists of two timed
IQ tests, one short, the other longer, based on proprietary versions of the
Wonderlic and California Test of Mental Maturity. The Culture Fair Test battery
consists of three untimed tests which are designed for people who are not proficient
in English. Each test takes about two hours to complete, costs $40, and can only
be taken once. You must be over 14 to take either test and persons between the
age of 14 and 18 must have a signed permission of their parent or guardian.
How can I take a qualifying test locally?
San Francisco Regional Mensa offers supervised tests frequently.
Advanced registration is preferred. Most tests are given on Saturdays and
take 2 hours to complete. Please bring a photo ID with you, as well as a check
for $40 payable to American Mensa Ltd.
To take one of these tests, send email to our
and provide your name, address, phone number, and the test location and date(s) in which you are interested.
If you would like to renew your current membership, or are a previous member of Mensa and want to re-instate your membership, you can do so in one of three ways:
by calling the National office at (817) 607-0060 and charging the membership fee to a credit card
by sending your name, Mensa membership number and a check for $52 to the National Mensa office at the address listed below
If you do not have your membership number you will still need to contact the national office. Only the national office keeps records of previous members' membership numbers.
